Opponents of the construction of a battery plant near Brest held their first pickets to collect signatures for nominating their activists as candidates for deputies at the upcoming parliamentary election.

A resident of Biaroza, a blogger, a member of the United Civil Party Aliaksandr Kabanau is nominated in No. 1 Brest Zapadni Constituency, a member of the Movement For Freedom (MFF) Council Raman Kisliak is nominated in No. 2 Brest Tsentralni Constituency, a resident of Brest region Alena Makarevich is nominated in No. 3 Brest Uskhodni Constituency, and a resident of Kobrin Uladzimir Maroz is nominated in No. 4 Brest Pamezhni Constituency.

The pickets were held in the centre of Brest in a pedestrian street and at five shopping centres in urban and rural areas, reports BelaPAN.

“The pickets showed that the residents of our region are tired of the pro-regime candidates who neither feel not listen to ordinary people. We are going to the parliamentary election as an alternative to pro-regime candidates,” said Raman Kisliak. “Many people specifically came to our pickets to sign for the nomination of our activists as candidates for deputies. We are going to the polls under the slogan ‘A Brest without Lead!’.”

MFF members supported the nomination of Kisliak and the other persons by participating in the pickets.
