March 25 is Independence Day for many Belarusians. The Belarusian People’s Republic was created on this day in 1918. This was the first historical attempt of the statehood of our country after the long period of occupation. The present Republic of Belarus would not exist without the BPR.
March 25 is celebrated in families or with friends, and also publicly as mass rallies in the centre of Minsk and other cities, during which the slogan ‘Long live Belarus!’ can be heard.
